Desktop widgets:
A Desktop widget is a small application that can provide you with required information by connecting to the internet from your desktop itself. For instance, a weather widget on your desktop, it accesses the web continuously and provides you with the weather details on your screen.

Web Widgets:
A web widget is also a mini application that can enhance a website, blog, social networking profile and lot more by simply copy/pasting it to required place. However, these are web based and can function only on the websites or blogs or anywhere on the WWW.
